You should pay for your food. It is the right thing to do.
Leave without paying. The food wasn't even good anyway.
How Adler Sees Me
Since Mom and Dad are gone, I'm in charge. No more computer time for you. Get your homework done.
How Horney Sees Me
Why aren't my coaches or teammates paying attention to me? There's no reason to be as involved as I am.
Sigmund Freud believed in the the id, ego, and superego components that make up our personality/mind. The Id, often displayed as a devil, represents our irrational, sometimes impulsive desires. While the Superego, often displayed as an angel, represents our moral principle. In this example, my id may be telling me to leave the restaurant without paying. I consults with my superego, and my ego decides that paying is the right thing to do.
How Jung Sees Me
This is so crazy! It must be a sign.
The Neo-Freudian, Alfred Adler, believed that the main factors influencing a child's development were sibling influences (birth order) and feelings of inferiority. The first born child is typically a rule follower and is very confident. As shown above, Emily (my sister), the first born child, is telling me that I cannot play on the computer any longer, and that I must start my homework.
How Eysenck Sees Me
...right as we were entering Cedar Point, a bird pooped right on Matthew's head!
HAHAHAHA!!
Karen Horney believed that we feel most helpless, anxious, and lost around the issue of not getting enough love. She also through that we build our personalities around fighting rejection, and may revert to moving away from people, or withdrawal. This is shown in the above image, as I have not been receiving any attention from my coaches and teammates, and have begun to withdrawal from society to cope with my inner conflicts.
How Bandura Sees Me
My haircut looks so bad. They must be thinking about how bad it looks
Carl Jung was another Neo-Freudian who believed in synchronicity. Synchronicity is the idea that we are all connected in a collective unconscious, or that there are meaningful coincidences. In the picture above, I am at a concert. While there, I was thinking about how a really good friend of mine who I hadn't seen for months loved this music. Almost immediately after thinking about her, I see her at the concert and begin talking with her.
Is that you Brenna? I feel like I haven't seen you in forever.
Eysenck recognized that certain personality factors tend to "cluster" next to one another. Hans and Sybil Eysenck took this idea and focused in on extraversion, which is when a person is sociable and gets energies from the outer world, and introversion, which is when someone gets their energies from the inner world. In the picture, I am at a party and am entertaining a whole group with the stories I'm telling, and I love it.
Bandura, another great psychologist, came up with several great ideas revolving around the study of the self and social aspects of life. One idea was the spotlight effect, which is when someone assumes that people have attention focused on you when they are likely not noticing you. As shown in the image above, I just got a new haircut that isn't the best, and I feel that everyone is looking at me, when in reality, they are thinking about their next class.
I wonder what my mom packed me for lunch today.
