- In a place called Westphilia, at the castle of Baron of Thunder-ten-trockh, there was a baby born who goes by the name of Candide.
- As an adult, Candide trained under his teacher Pangloss who taught him about optimism.
- "All is for the best in the best of all possible worlds!"
- On day, the Baron's daughter, Cunégonde, tries to make advances on Candide. The two kiss.
- Suddenly, the baron walks in and catches Candide with his precious daughter! He begins to chase Candide.
- Candide is kicked out of the castle by the enraged Baron.
- Now without a home and exiled from his city, Candide walks aimlessly to a nearby town.
- In a nearby town, Candide meets two soldiers who hoodwink him into joining their forces. And here is where Candide embarks on a series of misfortunate events. . .
