- Tatum, I need help! I have to prove that human actions can cause drought, for my science homework.
- Sure thing, Caroline! Let's start with the question: How can human actions lead to drought?
- Well, my research lead me to believe that if human actions affect drought then deforestation increases the shortage of rain.
- Good start! This means that your independent variable is the amount of deforestation in an area, and the dependent variable is the amount of rainfall in that time given.
- So then that means that when the clouds contain a lot of moisture it rains.
- The reason why cutting down trees causes less rain, is because forest trees hold moisture from their roots which then evaporates into the clouds.
- Okay, let's keep researching.
- Now we need data!
- 2 universities in the U.K. measured that the Amazon Basin will have a 12% reduction of rainfall, and a 21% decrease in dry seasons.
