  • Today at the appointment the doc mentioned to take iron supplements to avoid anemic conditions. I asked the problem with iron rich diet and she justified it. What do you think I should take. Which will be a better option?
  • Iron rich diet would be more beneficial and safe, Radha. It's recommended that women should not use dietary supplements during pregnancy since it can cause problems in pregnancy. Supplements can also be expensive, especially compared to a whole food.
  • Iron rich food gives you all the nutrients you need and are better since the supplements can't give you all the nutrients you get from the actual thing. Also, researchers have found that nutrients from food may be linked to lower risks of death, while excess intake of certain supplements may have the opposite effect.
  • I recommend you to go ahead with consuming iron rich food instead of supplements for your health and safety and also the of the baby inside of you. If we manage the amount of iron you intake it would be safer and there will be no problems of high iron levels. The rest is up to your decision. It is your right to make the decision for you and your baby and I will not come in between of that.
  • Both of the options have its advantages and disadvantages. But it's clear which one would be better to go ahead with.
  • I have made my decision doc. I will go ahead with an iron rich diet which will be controlled to avoid the problems you mentioned. The nutrients I will get from the food isn't the same and not as good enough of what will be present in the supplements. So it's clear which one is more beneficial and safe for me and my baby.
