- SummaryCoronado, a Spanish explorer, and more than 1,000 men went to search for Cubola in 1540. While they couldn´t find the city of gold, they did discover the Grand Canyon, the Pacific Ocean, and the Palo Duro Canyon. However since there was no gold in Texas, the Spanish ignored Texas until another country took an interest in the area.

- SummaryIn 1685, La Selle arrived not at the Mississippi River but at Matagorda Bay in Texas by accident. He had relations with the Karankawa tribe, but they didn´t get along. The presence of La Salle in Texas did alarm the Spanish, so they began building missions to keep the French out, even though Spain did not want France or another country to claim Texas.

- I would like the explore the ocean because exploring and mapping the oceans will help us fill gaps to better understand planetary-scale processes including tectonics and marine hazards; energy, mineral, and biological resources; and other large-scale Earth systems. Improved knowledge of the deep sea will help us sustainably manage and use ocean resources.
