  • After graduating from law school, Gandhi was hired to work as a lawyer in South Africa. Riding in the first class car of a train to work with a first class ticket, he was asked to move to 3rd class for a white passenger to take his seat. Gandhi refused, which got him thrown off the train.
  • In 1930, during which time making their own salt was illegal for the Indian people, Gandhi progressed on a 24 day journey from his home to the shore of the Arabian Sea. Once he reached his destination, he grabbed a handful of salt, breaking the British law, and exclaiming that he was shaking the British empire's foundation.
  • Gandhi had wanted the Hindu and Muslim people to live together peacefully. He continued visiting people all over India, but during one of his visits, a Hindu man angry at Gandhi for his tolerance of Muslims shot at him 3 times, killing him at the age of 78.
