The Medicine Bag

Martin's great grandpa, Joe, traveled from the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota to Iowa. Grandpa Joe's only living relatives are Martin and his family. He's going to pass down the medicine bag when the time is right.

Then I got mad when I saw how the yippy dogs were growling... and how wearily he poked them away with his cane.
"Oh, no!" I whispered, "It's Grandpa!"

Great grandpa Joe's father started the medicine bag. The young men on the reservation were filled with despair and hatred, so great grandpa Joe's father decided to go on a quest.
THE VISION QUEST
Grandpa Joe slept and later that night Martin's parents took him to the hospital. It was his time to leave now.
"Thank you, Grandpa," I said softly and left with the bag in my hands.
The medicine bag represents the family history all the way back to the vision. A tradition is being passed down to Martin. The medicine bag represents a new stage in his life.
