We farm cotton to make money to put food on the table.
Our region is favorable for the growth of cotton, a crop that is used in textile mills to make clothing. Because of this, our area is known as the cotton belt. This is what allows us to farm cotton efficiently and afford what we own.
Culture: Religion
Here in the South our culture was very religiously driven compared to the North.
This has led to a large number of churches being built in our region, as Christianity is the most followed religion in the region.
Economy: Slavery
Here in the South we have a complex farming based economy, the plantations grow several different kinds of crops, although cotton brings the most profit.
Unfortunately, our economy here also relies on people like us being enslaved. Most of us are here against our own will.
Society: Hierarchy
I am a slave. Part of the lowest level of the South's social hierarchy.
There are four main social classes here in the Southern United States. at the top, there are the plantation owners, at the second highest level are the small farmers, at the second lowest level there are poor farmers, and the absolute bottom class is the slave class. I am a small farmer.
I am a slave, I am at the bottom of the system.
I own the plantation here.
Culture (2): Plantation Owners
The culture here has the wealthy male plantation owners at the top of the caste system. We run the plantations and make sure that everything is going as intended.
My role in this culture is often buying, selling, and ensuring the return of escaped slaves, together we run this large plantation with relative success.
Economy (2): Cash Crops
The Southern Economy is mainly driven by farming-- because of this, our main export is a variety cash crops
Examples of the cash crops that we export are Sugar, Tobacco, and Cotton. These are valuable crops, and thus allow us to make a living.
