  • We will cross the river on the eve of December 25th.
  • Keep going men! We have to get to Trenton!
  • George Washington told his men that on the morning of December 26, 1776, they were to going to cross the Deleware River. Since that was the morning after Christmas, he assumed the Hessians would be hungover and sleeping in. He figured it would be a perfect time to strike since they have an advantage.
  • We have to strike now while we have the upper hand. FIRE!
  • On the morning of December 26, 1776 Washington and his men all crossed the Deleware River. Unfortunately it took a lot longer than he thought it would, so they would now have to strike in broad daylight.
  • I've been hit. We have to surrender.
  • After all the soldiers were across the river, they had to hike 9 miles to Trenton. The army was already exhausted and the hike just made even more tired than before. Nevertheless they kept going.
  • Time to go home. Let's go men!
  • Finally Washington and his men made it to Trenton. Washington had been correct. Most of the Hessians had been sleeping in due to the festivities the night before, which gave the Continental Army a huge advantage over them.
  • The Continental Army and the Hessians fought in broad daylight. After a while the Hessian's leader was shot. It was then that he realized they had to surrender. On his deathbed he surrendered to General Washington.
  • After the Hessians's surrendered Washington and his men departed for home. Unfortunately they didn't get to be home for long before departing for the next battle.
