In this story, it centers around how the government wants to make everybody equal, but they take it to the extreme. They "handicap" the over achievers, and leave what we consider the handicapped normal. It is a twisted world where the author tries to portray what the future may look like if this continues, and to also point out the problems in our society today.  With everything coming out with Gay rights and equality of trans people, it is scary that a lesser version of this story may come to pass.
