The Pit And The Pendulum

What if I spread the meats that's on the floor on the rooms. That way the rats will eat it and free me out.
Our character after almost falling into the pit proceeded to eat some bread and water that was left near him. He would soon find out that this was a bad choice since it made him feel dizzy and fall asleep. He then suddenly wakes up in a room all tied up with a scythe falling slowly like a pendulum on top of him. To top it all off, rats started to appear out of nowhere. Not finding an escape out of this trap he has been put into, he suddenly thinks of an idea.
After tricking the rats to eat the rope, the pendulum was pulled up instantly. All of a sudden he started to feel hot. The room he was in was made of iron walls which were slowly heating up, cooking him alive. if that's wasn't enough, the walls were also caving him on him slowly pushing him towards the pit.
What do I do, what do I do? The room tis so hot, I can feel it cooking me slowly. Help, somebody help!
Don't worry about that, I've come to rescue you.
He thought all hope was lost. The caving walls were pushing him towards the pit and there was no room left. Suddenly someone appeared out of the air. Was it his savior?
