A community brings people together based on a common interest or interests.
A community is where you live, and nothing more.
So, you're saying that neighbors aren't a part of a community?
I wouldn't say that...
They have different communities based on their life. For example, their workplace, neighbors, friends, if they're a part of a club or meeting.
No, I'm saying that people themselves are a part of multiple communities. People in said community feel that they belong there, and trust others that are there.
Sure. But proximity forces you to be close with them, and you will see them everyday.
How are they supposed to be a part of different communities if they live in one place?

Would you rely more on your neighbors that you don't see every day and don't have a close connection with or your friends?
My friends, obviously. Who wouldn't choose their friends?
But that doesn't mean that you have to see everybody from your community everyday.
That's what I'm saying. Not everyone is close with their neighbors.
I'm not saying that your neighbors aren't a community. Yes, they are. But there are many more than just one community.
But when you share a space with someone, your neighbors specifically, it becomes a shared responsibility.
Not every neighborhood is safe enough for everyone to feel comfortable.
