  • The Proclamation Act (1763)
  • The Stamp Act and Its Repeal (1765)
  • TheStampAct
  • The Townshend Acts (1765)
  • The Proclamation Act didn't let settlers go or advance past the Appalachian Mountains. It also let England control the westward expansion. Though the settlers did not like this invisible line, most Indian tribes did. The Proclamation ended up failing because of how small the effect on the settlers was. The settlers ignored the Proclamation and continued to go past the boundaries especially because there were no British soldiers to keep watch.
  • The Boston Massacre (1770)
  • The Stamp Act made people like lawyers and merchants have to have stamps for legal documents. The actual tax for the stamp wasn't expensive but the fact that the colonists had to get stamps for each document was what upset them. The only reason the Stamp Act happened was because England only wanted more money. Patrick henry, which was a person in the House of Burgesses, made the tax be repealed or the king would face an uprising.
  • The Tea Act and Boston Tea Party (1773)
  • The Townshend Acts consisted of several laws that colonists had to follow. One was the Quartering Act of 1765. This made colonists HAVE to give supplies and room in their houses to British troops. The thing that angered the colonists off the most was providing supplies to the troopers. There were also taxes on things like lead, paint, paper, and tea. These taxes were also be referred to as "external taxes" by the colonists.
  • The Intolerable Acts (1774)
  • I'll stay here for two weeks!
  • Ugh, that intolerable act.
  • The Boston Massacre occurred because of colonists getting in arguments with Hugh White outside of the Custom House. People threw objects at White, causing more trouble. The colonists taunted the troops and threw things at them. This caused Private Montgomery and a few other soldiers to shoot. 5 total colonists were killed including Crispus Attucks. The governor of Boston ordered all the colonists to leave. 8 British soldiers, 1 officer, and 4 civilians were arrested for murder and taken into trial. The trial took place on November 27, 1770. John Adams represented the British soldiers and argued that they had to defend themselves. 6 of the soldiers were said to be guilty while 2 were set free. This was used to portray the British as "evil and cruel."
  • You monsters!
  • You made us shoot!
  • The Boston Tea Party was a rebellion/protest against the British Government. The protestors dressed up as Indians and got on 3 ships on the Boston Harbor. They then threw 342 chests of tea overboard. Though, the British found out it was the colonists, not the Indians. The reason why they protested was because everyone loved tea. The British only let colonists buy tea from the East India Trading Company. The Tea Act made the colonists have to pay high taxes on tea. The colonists didn't like this so they wanted to return the tea back to Britain. They began to protest when it wasn't.
  • The Intolerable Acts occurred due to the Boston Tea Party. The acts were: 1. The port of Boston was now closed. 2. The self-government autonomy was lowered/reduced. 3. People that were accused of committing crimes had to be taken to England to be tried. 4. The colonists HAD to quarter British troops. All of these acts made the people of Massachusetts martyr's to other colonies. This sprouted a new resistance in the colonies.
