After years of wondering how the king got his special power and what the mystery dish was that the king ate privately every night, it was fate that the servant would taste the white snake and acquire the kings power to hear and understand animals.

After being accused of stealing the queens ring and being sentenced to execution It was faith for the loyal servant to over hear the ducks conversation about how one had swallowed a ring found outside the kings window.

After proving his innocence, instead of picking from any royal post of honor that the king offered it was the servants free will that allowed him to reject the kings offered and instead leave the kingdom to travel.

After stumbling upon a nest of ravens being forced out by their parents due to a lack of food, it was the servants free will to kill his horse and provide food for the ravens. 
After hearing news of the kings daughter searching for a husband along with seeing the princesses beauty it was the servants free will that allowed him to go before the king and declare himself a suitor.  
After all the animals he had helped it was fate that the three fish would come back and help him get the ring thrown to the bottom of the ocean by the king, that the ants would come during the night and pick up every millet scattered in the grass, and the ravens would help him get an apple from the tree of life.
