The laws say that men may not write unless the Council of vocations bids them so, May we be forgiven" (Rand 17). This means Equality faces adversity of betraying the council. He can't figure out what is going to happen next.

  • Man vs SelfIn chapter 4, Equality has a desire to talk to liberty. Both of them don't know how to act really. Equality describes the situation when Equality says, "The Golden one moved away, even though no others were coming, and they moved stepping back, as If they could not turn from us, their arms bent before them, as If they could not lower their hands" (Rand 58). This explains how both of the two really like each other.
  • Man vs SocietyIn chapter 5, Rand shows how important the tunnel is to Equality when he says, "We must guard the tunnel as we never have before"(Rand 61). This explains how much Equality cares about his creation, he talks about guarding the tunnel so none of the transgressions equality has committed has been captured.
  • Man vs SocietyIn chapter 6, it talks about how there is no guards when Equality says, "There is no reason to have guards, for men have never defied the Councils so far as to escape from whatever place they were ordered to be''(Rand 66 and 67). This explain the fear that the councils puts in it's people. Psychologically torturing these people because they are afraid to sin against the council.
