- Beowulf did not refuse the quest ever, but he was technically forced to complete the quest to repay his father's debt as Hrothgar himself had “brought the end to Edgetho’s Quarrel his father swore that he’d keep that peace”
- Allies: The hero has someone who makes the journey just that much easier.

- Wiglaf helps Beowulf on his last endeavor, helping him slay the mighty dragon, being the “only one who Remained” and “remembered As a good man must, what kinship should mean”.
- Beowulf has grown from his victories in Denmark, and has led the Geats well, but now he must slay a dragon that “no man but Could hope to defeat”. This defines Beowulf’s personality well, and shows that he is still the man of legend he was because of his great heroics.
- Beowulf deserves a reward for his heroics and a reward he shall get, but, he may not be alive to know it. Beowulf earns a valuable thing, his name remembered by all. His story was told by Geats who were “Telling their sorrow, telling stories Of their dead king and his greatness, his glory, Praising him for his heroic deeds, for a life As noble as his name”.
