  • In chapter 7 Brian is starting to feel weak from the berries he had picked because they were making him throw up and be sick. Brian had to do something about this hunger he had gotten again, so he went to go find some sweeter berries. Brian found raspberries instead of the disgusting gut cherries he had found before and went to go eat some of them and start gathering some to eat later. To Brian's surprise, there was a big black bear! The bear didn't threaten Brian but just stared at him, letting Brian share these wonderful raspberries with him. Brian was startled and ran away but soon realized that the bear didn't want to hurt him so Brian came running back to go pick some more. Brian soon went back into his shelter to enjoy these sweet berries as he clenched his hatchet and fell asleep.
  • Chapter 10
  • In chapter 8 Brian was startled awake to find a dark figure invading his shelter. He quickly kicked it and threw his hatchet at it and missed, the hatchet sparked up, and Brian felt this sharp pain in his leg. He later realized he had kicked at a porcupine and his whole leg was in so much pain! Brian took out the eight needles, which felt like a thousand, and then he somehow fell asleep. Brian had two dreams, one about his father trying to tell him something, but he couldn't make out the words, and one about Terry (Brian's friend) at a grill and Terry was pointing to the fire, trying to tell Brian something. Brian was so confused and frustrated he didn't know what they were gesturing, but soon Brian knew what they were talking about. Brian could make fire with his hatchet, and that was exactly what Brian tried to do.
  • Chapter 11
  • In chapter 9 Brian knew what he had to do, and that was to attempt to make fire with his hatchet. Brian tried everything to get some sparks going, like twigs and grass, but they eventually died out. Brian tried tiny slivers of wood but the sparks needed more. Brian thought back to all those science classes he took, and remembered that he needs oxygen for fire. In result he tried again by hitting his hatchet against the wall and blowing softly on the brightest parts of the sparks. This created a tiny HUNGRY fire so he ran to go chop some limbs off the tree and feed this hungry fire. Now he had a guard, a friend, and some warmth.
  • Chapter 12
  • In chapter 10, Brian told himself he would never let the fire go out. So he spent the whole day gathering wood and feeding his hungry friend. Brian soon went to sleep but he woke up to some slithering sound, of course Brian wasn't worried because he had the fire, but there was definitely something outside. In the morning Brian saw a pile of sand, and a big circle with prints sticking out the sides. Brian soon realized that this creature was a turtle and inside the sand was it's eggs. Brian took all of the eggs and ate 6 of them raw, while saving the rest.
  • In chapter 13 Brian realizes that his mental and physical states have both changed vastly. Brian is kinda depressed now because no one has come to save him. Brian is also very skinny and his stomach is now caved in from hunger. The only thing keeping Brian going is having things to do. When Brian went to the lake he saw this bird eating fish and the bird showed Brian that there is fish in the lake! So now Brian is going to attempt to spear some fish.
  • In chapter 12 Brian spent most of his day making a spear but the spear didn't work. Brian instead of using the spear went to go gather some wood to go make a bow. As Brian started gathering wood all Brian could think of was how he was gonna fish with a bow, but he didn't notice this buzzing noise in his ear. This buzzing noise was, Brian soon found out, a motor from a plane! Brian ran back to camp to start his signal fire but as soon as he started it he realized he was too late. Brian cried now knowing his chance was missed.
