  • Angela Davis, born in 1944 in the state of Alabama,
  • She was an activist for civil rights, a member of the Black Panthers movement (Black Panther Party) and a professor of philosophy. Because of her revolutionary activism, she was even included on the FBI's Most Wanted list in the 1960, by order of J. Edgar Hoover.

  • On January 5, 1971, Davis appeared in Marin County Superior Court and pleaded not guilty to the court and the nation: "I now publicly declare before the court, before the people of this country, that I am innocent of all charges that have been made against me by the state of California". John Abt, the general counsel for the Communist Party USA, was one of the first attorneys to represent Davis for his alleged involvement in the shootings.

  • In 1972 she was sentenced to death, accused of being an accomplice in a shootout with fatalities. The sentence was withdrawn due to the intense international mobilization, which led Angela to become one of the symbols of the fight for the civil rights of men and women of color.
