- You have her father's love, Demetrius. Let me have Hermia's. Why don't you marry him?
- Yes, scornfully Lysander, true, he has my love. And because of that love I'll give him what's mine. She belongs to me, and I hand over all my rights to her to Demtrius.
- Take time to reconsider. By the next new moon, my wedding day, either prepare to die for disobeying your father's will, or else marry Demetrius as he wishes; or on the Alter of Diana, Patroness of Chasity, vow to live a life of austerity, unmarried.

- Well said. So listen, Hermia. I have a widowed aunt, an elderly lady with great wealth, and she is childless. She regards me as her only son. Her house is about twenty miles from Athens, and there, gentle Hermia, I can marry you. The severe Athenian laws can't follow us there. If you love me, slip out of your father's house tomorrow night, and in the wood three miles outside the town, where I once met you with Helena one May morning, there I'll wait for you.
