- Sen. McCarthy was important because he led the whole idea of the Red Scare. This created lots of paranoia in the US
- Massive Retaliation is using force (nukes in particular) as a deterrent against attack.
- The Cold War impacted American life because Americans were drawn into believing anti-communist propaganda
- The Cold War affected life in Virginia because people now had to worry about the potential of a nuclear attack by the USSR especially in the north since it was near the capital DC. Not only in Virginia but elsewhere too.
