- Dwight D. Eisenhower joined the army in 1915. Throughout his military career he severed under several officers/generals. In 1935 he went to the Philippines to help develop their army with Gen. Douglas MacAuthur. On this trip, Eisenhower learned how to work with difficult people(MacAuthur) and grew his leadership skill. In the near future the work here would be very important.

The Allied forces needed a foothold in France to free Paris. This was the turning point in the war. Eisenhower planned the mission and made the call to start the operation.

He was very well-liked among the public.
