  • THE FIRST GULF WAR
  • IRAN HOSTAGE CRISIS
  • THE CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS
  • The Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, because he wanted to take over. President Bush quickly took notice and gathered a strong coalition of forces from around the world to remove Hussein from Kuwait. When Hussein refused to withdraw from Kuwait the U.S along with other forces gathered, entered Kuwait to defeat and return all Iraqi forces back to Iraq.
  • THE BAY OF PIGS INVASION
  • In 1979 Iranians overthrew the Shah of Iran, one of America's strongest supporters. The Iranians created a new Islamic republic with the religious leader Ayatollah Khomeini. When the Shah fled to the U.S. for medical treatment, the Iranian government allowed an angry group of protestors to seize the staff of the U.S Embassy in the Capital City of Tehran. This is when the U.S had to step in. The hostages weren't freed until about half a year later.
  • THE KOREAN WAR
  • In October 19622, American Spy planes flew over Cuba and discovered housing being built for nuclear weapons. This was only 90 miles away from the U.S. President Kennedy established a naval blockade of Cuba to prevent any attacks. After a compromise, Cuba agreed to remove the missiles, and the U.S will not invade them. 
  • "War on Terror"
  • In 1959, Castro took power. He promised to form a democracy but instead  created a dictatorship. He took over properties belonging to American Companies, so the U.S cut off all trade from Cuba. President Eisenhower created a secret plan to train Cuban exiles and to invade as well as bomb Cuba. In 1961 Cuban exiles landed at the Bay of Pigs . On the day of the invasion, Kennedy refused to provide air suport to Cuban exiles, and were sadly defeated.
  • In 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea in attempt to re-untie the country under North Korean communist rule. When news came back to the U.S, president Truman decided to send U.S troops to South Korea to resist North Korean attacks. The U.S was attempting to contain communism in Asia. In the end, both countries remained divided just as they were before.
  • On September 11 , 2001, commercial airplanes led by the Al-Qaeda terrorist group, intentionally flew into the World Trade Center and The Pentagon. The planes carried normal passengers, and hostages kept by the group, this was a suicide mission. In response to the Al-Qaeda Islamic terrorist group attacks, president George W. Bush declared a global "War on terror".
