  • Why Africa?
  • History 101
  • Today class we are going to be learning about Africa!
  • All I know is that Africa is a dangerous and poor country.
  • To begin, what do you guys know about Africa?
  • Firstly, Africa is a continent not country, and Africa is filled with power, life, wealth, and more
  • UH OH that was a big stereotype of Africa!
  • Susan what you just described is called a notion of Africa!
  • There are many notions or stereotypes about Africa that people assume
  • What are the notions?
  • One Notion is "Primitive Africa"
  • This notion describes Africa as underdeveloped compared to the rest of the world. Which is very false
  • This notion is false as there are many developed contries in Africa such as Cape Town, South Africa!
  • History 101
  • What other notions are there?
  • Well Adam there is another notion called "Wild and Dangerous Africa"
  • This notion is very popular as many assume Africa is a poor and dangerous place. If you think of Africa like this you have been influenced by this stereotype of Africa.
  • Oh no I was completely wrong about Africa!
  • History 101
  • Next is the notion of "Broken Africa" which is a the most modern notion as it describes Africa as poor and doomed to fail
  • "Broken Africa"
  • History 101
  • Okay due to class almost ending I will leave you guys with this last thought!
  • There are many more notions of Africa left, but the main lesson to be learned is that we should not focus on these stereotypes but to educate ourselves on the role Africa played in history and to better understand Africa is to prove these notions wrong. Africa is a continent that has always been filled with life, power and wealth.
