- The Rise of the Roman Republic from a Patrician's Point of View
- 13 years ago in 509 BCE, we overthrew the Etruscans and created a republic. It's was now October 2nd in the year 494 BCE. I, Achates Drakos, was giving a speech explaining the new laws that the other we decided on. Little did we know that later that year the plebeians would march out of the city leaving us with no way to take care of our needs.

- After I finished giving my speech I heard some boos from the plebeians, but I didn't care because all they do is complain. They always say they do all the hard work but in truth, we have to do all the work. We have to make laws then vote on them multiple times and then give a speech explaining them because the plebians are too dumb to understand.

- The next day I woke up and looked out the window. What I saw was horrifying. I saw all of the plebeians walking out with tents and food and many other provisions. I got dressed and ran to see where they were all going. They were leaving and there was no army to stop them because they were the army!!
- They left us with no food and provisions and no way to protect ourselves. We tried to get them to come back, but they said they wouldn't come back unless we give them rights and let them join the government. When we heard this we all laughed. How are such dumb people going to be able to be in the government? We decided that we will give them what they want and eventually they will see that it was much better when it was just us ruling Rome.
- Once we gave them a few rights they came back. Later in 451 BCE, we were forced to agree to have all of the laws written down on tablets. Also in 367 BCE, we were forced, again, to agree that one of the Consuls must be plebian. Then in 287 BCE, the plebians were allowed to pass laws for all Roman citizens. I don't think any of this is fair, but it is the only way for us to be able to live.
