  • Carbohydrates, found in bread and tomatoes, are broken down by the enzyme amylase, which comes from the salivary glands in the mouth and the pancreas in the small intestine; they are digested in the mouth and small intestine, absorbed in the small intestine, and taken in as sugar (glucose).
  • Carbonation Carbs are in bread and tomatoes. They start breaking down in the mouth and finish in the small intestine. Enzyme amylase turns carbs into sugar. Sugar goes into the blood.
  • Proteins, found in eggs, bacon, and cheese, are broken down by the enzymes pepsin from the stomach and trypsin from the pancreas; they are digested in the stomach and small intestine, absorbed in the small intestine, and taken in as amino acids.
  • Fats, found in avocado, cheese, and bacon, are broken down by bile from the liver/gallbladder and lipase from the pancreas; they are digested and absorbed in the small intestine as fatty acids.
  • Vitamins and minerals are in tomatoes, avocado, eggs, cheese, and bread. They don’t need any enzymes. Most go into the small intestine, some go into the large intestine. Vitamins go in as tiny bits, and minerals go in as tiny charged bits.
  • Water is in all foods and drinks. It does not need enzymes. It goes into the stomach, small intestine, and large intestine and then into the blood.
