  • The Battle of Lake Erie was a Major U.S. naval victory in the war. The U.S. wanted complete control over Lake Erie so the British could not settle there. This battle occured on September 10, 1813.
  • The Bombing of Fort McHenry
  • The Creek War was a battle fought between the U.S. and the Creek Indians. This battle took place from 1813-14. The Creek Indians were British allies so the U.S. took cession over Alabama and Georgia.
  • The Battle of New Orleans
  • The British burning Washington D.C. was a major invasion on a U.S. capital. This was the first time anyone has seen an opposing party take over a capital. Buildings including the White House and the Capitol were burned. This event occured on August 24, 1814.

  • The Bombing of Fort Mchenry was a failed attempt of bombardment by the British. They lost the crucial land of the port city known as Baltimore. The British were defeated and it caused a huge turning point in the war, because it lead to an agreement later that year. This event took place on September 13, 1814
  • The Battle of New Orleans was an event in which the British wanted to capture the city and seperate Louisiana from the rest of the U.S. However, the British were defeated by the U.S. troops. This battle took place after the Treaty of Ghent was signed. However the copy of the treaty was on a ship that did no reach the U.S. until after the battle had been fought. This battle took place on January 8, 1815.
  • The Treaty of Ghent was signed to end the war of 1812. The British and American representatives signed the treaty on December 24, 1814. However the copy did not reach the U.S until after January 8, 1815. The treaty stated that all land be returned and the boundery between the United States and Canada would be settled.
