- Hi Brian, it was very relaxing , thankyou. I thought I would come in a bit early and get started as it was my first week, and we were quite busy last week.
- Good morning Gillian, how was your weekend?

- The client is Mick Murphy, he has been released on bail on charges of aggravated assault. There is suspicion of drug use and Mick is a also member of the Crazies motorycle gang.
- Im not that experienced, If you supervise, Ill interview him and obtain as much information as I can for you.
- You will be fine, I will assist with the preparation of the case, but we cannot decline the retainer due to his Uncles association with the firm. If you can interview Mick when he comes in this morning would be appreciated.
- My uncle said that your team is the best and you can get me off. Brian has helped my uncle a number of times.
- Good morning Mick, I understand you would like us to represent you in your upcoming court case. I will assist Brian, so I will need you to provide me all the details and confirm your statement to the police.
- I was having a few drinks with Kieran,one thing led to another, he swung a few punches and I punched him back, he fell and hit his head.
- its not as easy as that, but we will do our best. Can you tell me exactly what happened. You state that you acted in self defence.
- Kieran owed me some money and he wouldnt repay it , so I got angry and started yelling and he then tried to punch me.

- Yes , my mate Benny was with me, we ride motorcycles together, he saw everything and will tell you that I am telling the truth.
- was there anyone else with you that can attest to your side of the story, I don't want you to leave anything out that may come as a surprise
- I have had an assault charge before but it was dropped, Benny is part of the club but he is a good guy. I didn't mean to hurt Kieran, I just wanted my money.
- Have you been in trouble like this before? I see that you are a member of a motorcycle club, there are restrictions on members gathering together , I hope Benny is not apart of the club as his evidence maybe problematic.

- The police report mentioned they suspected drug use, were you using drugs, or is that why Kieran owed you money?
- Ok, maybe Kieran did use drugs, he could of been an addict I dont know! he was crazy
- Mick, if drugs were involved this could be more serious, I need to tell Brian what happened, he wont wany any information missing if he is going to represent you
- why would I need a Barrister?
- well , if there is no other information, I will detail our conversation and speak with Brian. He will detail the legal costs for you and further advice. He may recommend that we engage a Barrister to assist with the case.
- That sounds complicated and expensive, I thought you could handle everything
- Mick as your lawyer, we can appear in court on your behalf for the preliminary hearings, but a Barrister is more experienced on court procedures and is involved in the formal argument of the proceedings.
- ok, let see what Brian recommends, I just want this to be over
- Mick as the charges are serious, a Barrister can provide specialty advice and assist with the drafting of the court documents , they will provide an engaging argument as they understand these areas of the law.

- As Brian will be dealing with your case I will pass all this information on. He will review and then contact you with his advice in regards to costs and an outcome.

- Mick would not advise if drugs were involved and what the fight was about, which is concerning
