- This is the first place or setting that takes place in the novel Anthem. We first meet Equality in a tunnel where water I spewing from the cracked walls, and where he is alone and it is dark with the only light coming from the candle "we stole from the larder of the Home of the Street Sweepers" (Rand 18).
- Chapter 2
- This is when Equality and his best friend Internation are deciding whether to enter the cave that is the start of where the Uncharted forest begins. Equality decides to gin by himself since International thinks it's wrong because it is forbidden.
- Chapter 3
- "LIberty 5-3000... Liberty five-three thousand... Liberty 5-3000" (Rand 39). In chapter two one of the most important things to happen is the introduction of our other main MC Liberty. Not only is she an important and new infatuation for Equality but she is also the first female character we are introduced to.
- Chapter 4
- In chapter 2 the Trangerssor is sent to burn at the stake because he spoke the Unspeakable Word. This is of importance because this man showed self-worth to society and bravery by dying for what he believes is right.
- In chapter 3 Equality discovers "a new power of nature. And we discovered it alone. We are alone to know it" (Rand 52). Equality is in his cave when he take the brine of the frog's body and a piece of copper which created a new unknown kind of power which we know as electricity.
- In chapter 4 Equality and Liberty are in a field alone when they create new names for one another being the Unconquered and the Golden One. This chapter is also a huge step in the romance. Liberty and Equality are holding hands when they both feel this foreign unknown connection with each other.
