  • Suburbs
  • I wonder what I should get from the grocery store...
  • It feels so nice, being able to walk without any distractions around to bother me, like there was in the city.
  • Greenbelt
  • The trails here are so nice! Getting away from the city for a bit feels so refreshing.
  • Gated Communities
  • It is so nice not having to worry about my safety as much as I did before moving here.
  • Residential communities, located outside of city centers, are usually relatively homogeneous in terms of population. An example of a suburb would be Chesterbrook, PA since it has a cluster of properties, primarily residential, that are not densely compacted, yet located very near an urban area that is.
  • Gentrification
  • Sure, honey. Since it's your birthday, we can go shopping at all of the different stores nearby.
  • A green belt is an area of land with fields or parks around a town or city, where people are not allowed to build houses or factories by law. An example of a green belt would be central park in New York City since it is a huge park that has trails and is a great place to relax and to get away from the city for a little bit. It is a huge area dedicated to focusing on nature and helps out the environment even while being surrounded by a huge city.
  • CBD
  • Urban Outfitters
  • Young's Backpacking
  • Crumbl Cookies
  • Fenced-in neighborhoods with controlled access gates for people and automobiles, creating a sense of place and security. An example of a gated community would be Lakewood Plaza which is located in Modesto, CA. It has good security and is private, so it makes it more difficult to access than a standard community.
  • Rural
  • I love the peacefulness out here, compared to back then when I lived in the city, where I didn't have a chance to think.
  • The process whereby the character of a poor urban area is changed by wealthier people moving in, improving housing, and attracting new businesses, typically displacing current inhabitants in the process. An example of gentrification would be a neighborhood called Oak Park located in Sacramento, CA. Since it has a close proximity to downtown Sacramento, more people are moving to the neighborhood, forcing residents who have lived in the area to move because of increasing housing costs.
  • Why are the prices of housing getting so high around here all of a sudden?!
  • Wow! The houses here are so nice, I should consider buying one!
  • The downtown or nucleus of a city where retail stores, offices, and cultural activities are concentrated; building densities are usually quite high; and transportation systems converge. An example of a CBD would be Glendale Galleria which is a shopping center located in Glendale, California. It has a lot of stores and is perfect for attracting people nearby because of its practicality and ginormous size.
  • Mommy! I want the new cat backpack! Pretty please!
  • New!
  • OPEN
  • Sparsely settled places away from the influence of large cities. An example of a rural place would be in Gerlach, Nevada. The reason why is because of how spread out all of the houses are from each other, and the town itself is also located in the middle of nowhere. This makes it a desolate area compared to an area like the suburbs, where all of the houses are crowded together.
