My work was not known until 1958 and not published till 1962, I graduated in Law and studied literature, art, philosophy and philosophical analysis of art.
I am a Russian psychologist and educator born in 1896 but died at the age of 38 due to tuberculosis. I had many sibilings and I took care of them ;.it is from this care I learnt that adult and culture play significant role in children's cognitive development.
I am called the Mozart of Psychology'. In collaboration with Alexander Luria and Alexel Leonteiv, I introduced a new approach to social interaction in human development.
I believe through others, we become ourselves
Context
I believe tha culture and language significant influence on child develoment and the tools culture provide include history, social context and language and electronic forms of means of communication
Culture gives the child the tool for cognitive development. and adults such as parents and teachers are conduits for the tools of the culture and language
Piaget is my contmporary. He is a cognitive constructivist and I am social constructivist.
I focus on the progression of children to different stages at the end f which they achieve maturation.
I believee role of language is minimal- they proivide just labels for their experiences
My key words are: equilibrium, schema, adaptation, assimilation accommodation
I divide cognitive development in four stages
Sociocultural theory of DevelopmentKey concepts-ZPD MKO
ZPD-Zone of Proximal Development- a three layered circle at the centre of which the child who can do or learn certain things without the scupport of others. The second Zone is the one in which the child can learn with the guidance from others.-through scaffoding .The outermost layer or the last zone is the one in which the child cannot do anything even without an elder or guide.
MKO- More knowldedgable other_ peer, teacher, coach, tutor, sibiligns- anyone who has a better understanding of a higher ability level that the child play a great role in the development and learning
Children construct their knowledge with the support of the adults, development cannot be separated from its social context, learning can lead development and language plays a central role in mental development
Attention, sensation, perception and memory are elementary mental functions. higher order thinking and Problems solving straategies are Higher mental functions

Sociocultural theory of DevelopmentKey Concepts-Language
There are three forms of language; social speech(external communication used to link with theoutside world, talk to others(typical from age 2), Private speech: which is directed to the self and serves an intellectual function.; Inner pseech_ (typical from age of 7) -private speech goes underground, diminishing in audibility as it takes self-regulating function
Private speech is a means for children to plan strategies and activities and therefore aid their development

Critique
He is overly optimistic, no consideration of gender and used informal research methods.
ZPD is unclear does not account for a pricise picture of a child's learning needs, present capability level motivational influences.

External speech thought is embodied in words, in inner speech words dies asas they bring forth thought, hence to a large extent thinking in pure meanings. It is not the internal aspect of external speech. it is a function in itself.
Language is the main means by which adults transmit information to children. It becomes a very powerful tool of intellectual adaptation

Failed to provide much about the effective use of ZPD in classs rooms
does not recognize that individuals can rise above social norms based on their ability to bring about personal understanding
Opposes learner centered and discovery-oriented learning- heavy dependance on adults
