- Salva, a member of the Dinka tribe is separated from his family during the war. He is forced to run away with a couple people who leave him behind because he is a kid. He finds a couple people from his tribe and embarks on a dangerous journey. After fighting extreme home sickness and lonelyness, Salva finds Marial. He becomes steadfast friends with him. He also meets an older man along the way and is overjoyed when it is confirmed he is Salva's uncle. Soon after Marial gets eaten by lions and Uncle gets shot by soldiers.

- I don't like "a Long Walk to Water" because I find it too boring and too short. I think if it was longer I would've liked it more. It felt like because it was so short, it was just big scene after big scene, with no space to process.

- After Uncle passed away the group didn't share their food. Despite these new worries Salva was even more determined and kept his head held high. The group found their way to the refuge camp of Itang. Soldiers forced all the refugees out of camp and toward the Gilo river. Salva and many others jumped into the river to escape the soldiers, although many of them were eaten by crocodiles or shot by the soldiers. When Salva got across he walked with a few boys that gradually became more then twelve hundred. Salva was the leader, giving out jobs to the various boys. They reached Kenya safely after a year and a half. Five years later in Ito refuge camp, an aid named Michael helped Salva learn English. Soon after, the ones in charge announced there will be lists full of people that would go to America. after many lists with no success, Salva's name popped on one. he was going to Rochester. He went on a plane, and met his new family. Growing accustomed to things like cars, electricity, English, and puffer coats was hard for him. But it was also extremely exciting. A few months later, Salva's cousin texts him that his father is alive and undergoing surgery. Salva rushed to Sudan and reached the hospital. His father assured him his mother was alive, and he decided to do something for the good of Sudan. He tells speeches, raising money, and digs wells all over Sudan. At the end of his story, he meets Nya when digging in Nuer, tying his story to her in a powerful conclusion.

- Nya walks for hours twice a day to fetch water from a pond. The water is muddy and unsafe, but it is the only source of water needed for her family and Village. Even more importantly, her sister, Akeer is sick. She suffers from an unknown illness that starts with stomachaches and cramps, then diarrhea, and sometimes fever. The doctors instructed her mom to only give Akeer clean water. Since they didn't have, they were forced to boil down the little amount of water they had, creating less, and making Nya go to the pond double as many times.
- When men come to drill a well in her Village, Nya is sceptical at first as she watches them struggle with the equipment and the harsh terrain. After weeks of hard work,the well is successfully completed,providing clear water nearby. This change allows Nya to imagine a future where she no longer has to make the long, exhausting journeys. At the end of her story, she meets Salva, the man responsible for the well, tying her story to his in a powerful conclusion.
