- The story starts with a cozy mood. There is a family which is called the White family it consists of :(Mr. and Ms. White and their son which is named Herbert. Mr. White and his son were playing chess together, and while they were playing it started showing the smart skills Mr.White has on playing chess; he knows every single move. Mr. White was having a problem with this house he don't love it because it has two houses only on the street.

- It causes mischief....
- Suddenly, a visitor shows which is named Major Morris and while some family members was having a question in their mind about who is this man. Mr.White announced that he is his friend for 21 years. While talking the old man wished to visit INDIA and Sergent Morris replied to him:" better where you are !"

- Mr.White asked his friend about the Monkey Paw he told him about before. Then, the soldier told him: "Nothing!" Mrs. White asked them: "Monkey Paw?" Here Sergent Morris started telling the White family about the Monkey Paw and how much it is magic and that it doesn't work only by a spell by an old fakir.

- Major Morris kept on answering Mr. White's questions about the Monkey Paw history and that two men before used it they ended up here by a question from Major Morris asking: "Would you keep it ?" Then, when he saw that his friend might accept taking the paw he advised him and told him how much it brings mischief. Sergent Morris threw the paw in the fire and Mr.White grabs it fast which foreshadows the idea of keeping the paw that was in his mind.
- Here Sergent Morris left fast because he needed a train as fast as he can. He tried advising his friend to not blame him then, but the old man didn't hear his advice. Then, the son talks and tells his dad about wishing 200 pounds is a mockery way and the father did. He waited for this and started playing the piano which is also one of his skills. He saw the Monkey Paw moving like a snake and he got nervous at that moment.
- Last, the son went to his parents to wish them a good night and while he was doing this he said to his father:" Maybe the money will come to under your pillow at night !" He didn't believe in these things. When the son went down to sit beside the fire he saw many monkey faces in the fire; he didn't show any care and didn't take this seriously unlike his dad.
