  • Exposition: The exposition of perspective is introduced when Rainsford said, "'...Be a realist. The world is made up of two classes-the hunters and the huntees. Luckily, you and I are hunters. Do you think we've passes that Island yet?'" (Connell 63).
  • Inciting Incident: The inciting incident is found when the text states, "...his pipe, striking a rope, was knocked from his mouth. He lunged for it; a short, hoarse cry came from his lips as he realized he had reached too far and had lost his balance" (Connell 63).
  • Rising Action: The rising action was initiated in the text when it states, "These stakes he planted in the bottom of the pit with points sticking up. With flying fingers he wove a rough carpet of weeds and branches, and with it he covered covered the mouth of the pit" (Connell 78).
  • Climax: The climax was shown when the text stated, "Twenty feet below him the sea rumbled and hissed. Rainsford hesitated. He heard the hounds. Then he leaped into the sea..." (Connell 80).
  • Falling Action: The falling action was shown when Zaroff said, "' How in gods name did you get here?" (Connell 80)
  • Resolution: The resolution was shown when Rainsford thought, "He had never slept in a better bed" (Connell 80).
