  • "You think this could really be a legitimate rediscovery?"(Crichton 44) When the "lizard" starts biting people, it foreshadows the danger that could happen later on in the book. It also absorbs readers into the story, which then keeps them involved throughout the whole book. With the excitement at the beginning,
  • "Oh my God, Oh my God."(Cricton 75). The island, and the first sight of the dinosaurs, symbolizes how large the dinosaurs actually are. The excitement and surprise when the consultants first see them is remarkable. The quote at the start of the paragraph is from Dr. Ellie Sattler, the paleobotanist that is consulting for Mr. Hammond, the creator of the island.
  • "And the offshore island with its dinosaur eggs became the eroded hillside in Northern Montana which Alan Grant was now excavating."(Crichton 32)Dr. Grant, a paleontologist working in Montana was one of the leading experts who thought it possible that dinosaurs could be warm-blooded. He is also a consultant for Mr. Hammond, the owner of the island known as Jurassic Park. Dr. Grant being a main part of this story early on, symbolizes how much it has to do with dinosaurs.
  • "These plants are dangerous, they have a deadly toxin in them, and they definitely shouldn't be anywhere near the pool." (Chrichton 94)The poisonous plants on the island seem to show carelessness and poor planning. The plants could kill a child if eaten and possibly even by touch. It doesn't seem like a smart idea to put something like that in a tourist attraction, especially since they are right next to the pool. The paleontologist, Dr. Ellie Sattler, notices this right away when they arrive at the island.
  • "We should be back in thirty, forty minutes,' Harding said. 'If I don't get lost."(Crichton 192) This symbolizes how large the island is compared to people, and how scary it can be to be lost in an unknown place. Another thing it does is build suspension and excitement for the next scene.
  • "Grant lay back against the rubber gunwales, closed his eyes, and slept."(Crichton 268) This symbolizes how tired the characters are, and how much energy they have spent trying to stay alive. Often times throughout the story, the characters are hiding to try and escape from the dinosaurs that have been let out of their enclosures.
