- Many runaway slaves became known as contraband and joined the union as a way to secede slavery. Not all men and women fugitives made it though, some were caught, taken back or even lynched.

- Rosalee ran away that night alone, to freedom. She just made it away. She made her way from town to town til she go to rhode island, where she would soon settle down.
