Montag´s Hero´s Journey in Farenheit 451

Texto del Guión Gráfico

  • The setting of the ordinary world is a futuristic world filled with technology, violence and mind-control. Most of the story occurs in and around an unspecified city were books are burned and free thought is forbidden. This counts as the ordinary world because it is the setting where the big first part of the book occurs.
  • 4. Meeting with the Mentor- “"I don´t talk things, sir", said Faber. "I talk the meaning of things. I sit here and think I´m alive.”(Bradburry, PDF pg.35)
  • 1. The Known World- “It was a pleasure to burn.” (Bradburry, PDF pg.1)
  • The call to adventure in Fahrenheit 451 is when Montag met a seventeen year old girl, Clarisse McClellan, who showed him a new way to view life. They walked together in the mornings and nights since they were neighbors. She introduced Montag to a new way to view the actual society and the importance of books.
  • 2. Call to Adventure- “But Clarisse´s favorite subject wasn´t herself. It was everyone else, and me. She was the first person in a good many years I´ve really liked. She was the first person I can remember who looked straight at me as if I counted." (Bradburry, PDF pg.33)
  • 5. Crossing the Threshold- “There must be something in books, things we can´t imagine, to make a woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. You don´t stay for nothing.” (Bradburry, PDF pg.24)
  • Montag first ignores Clarisse. However, when Clarisse was gone, he begins to question the society around him. It is this moment, when he begins his personal analysis of the society he lives in, that ultimately drives him to accept Clarisse’s call.
  • 3. Refusal to the Call- “"Do you ever read any of the books you burn? He laughed. "That is against the law!"” (Bradbury, PDF pg.3)
  • 6. Tests, Allies and Enemies-
  • Montag meets with Faber, a retired English professor. Faber was a person that showed Montag a book a long time ago when he had just started as a firefighter. When this had happened, he gave him his phone number and told him to call him if he ever needed him. Montag ends up calling him and meeting him in a park because he feels that he is in need of someone to advice and help him save the world.
  • Montag´s threshold was when he burned the woman’s house with Beatty, and when the woman decided to burn herself with the books. In that situation he also stole a book before the house burned. This was crossing the threshold because from this moment Montag started to think and to care about books and their future.
  • Montag´s allies were Clarisse, Faber and Granger since they helped him to accomplish his Hero´s Journey. His enemies were Mildred, Beatty, Society and the Mechanical Hound since they made temptations and tried to stop Montag to complete his Hero´s Journey. He needed to overpass a lot of tests but some of the most important ones were his talks with Mildred and Beatty when they told Montag to stop and burn all of the books he had.
