  • The soldiers in the camp were not fed good at all. They were mostly just given beans, bacon, pickled beef, biscuits and hardtack. most of the time the biscuits were too hard to even bite into so they soaked them in coffee to make them softer. They also crushed their beans with a rifle butt and drank 4 pints of it.
  • Food
  • In the camps, they got bands to play in the heat of the battle to keep up the morale of the soldiers. Some camps also got weekly newspaper to keep them motivated.
  • Camp life
  • During the battles, many shells were exploding at random times and cleared a 20 foot space when they exploded. most battles were fought in rugged forested country areas where their were lots of diseases
  • Battles
  • Before their was anethesia, they did surgery when you were fully awake while you were strapped onto a table. Diseases took more lives then battle wounds did. to cure some diseases, they used led acetate, opium, and aromatic sulfur acid.
  • Medicine
  • The worst feature of the civil war was the prisons where more then 50,000 men died in. The worst prison camp was in Andersonville and the leader of the confederacy was jailed for 2 years.
  • Prisoner Of War Camps
  • African American soldiers had limited military action and were particular targets for southern hatred. They served in more then 400 battles and couldn't be promoted into the military until 1865.
