- In the exposition of the story Pony boy introduces his friends. He introduces the three Curtis brothers, him, Darry, and Soda. Sodas friend Steve. Dally Winston who grew up in New York and was arrested at a young age. Last but not least Two-bit who is funny.
- Climax
- In the rising action Johnny kills a "Soc" who tries to jump him in self defense trying to save Pony boy who would have died.
- Falling Action
- Its going to be okay.
- In the next rising action Pony boy and Johnny run away because they are afraid of being caught by the police and put in the "electric chair". Later Dally finds them and they go back to there "hide out" the church and find it in flames with children in it.
- Resolution
- After saving the kids from the burning church Johnny finds himself with a broken back and later dies.
- Pony boy is sad and does not want to believe that his best friend just died.
- Cheer up Pony boy
- Pony boy's English teacher tells him to write a story on anything worth writing for and he writes a story called the "outsiders".
