- In this scene Lizabeth and her friends tease and make fun of Miss.Lottie. The sang a song calling Miss.Lottie a old lady witch. This was very childish because she unkowningly was hurting Miss.Lotties feelings.
- Lizabeth is woken by the sounds of her parents having a conversation about the proverty their family is facing. Her dad was struggling to find a job to help support his family and felt saddened that his wife was the backbone of the family instead of him, and there's little to nothing he could do about it. Lizabeth starts to wonder what's her role in the family and where she belongs. This is her transition into adulthood.
- All of the emotions swelled up inside lizabeth overwhelm here in this scene. She then goes to Miss.Lotties garden and proceeds to destroy all her flowers. Lizabeth then saw Miss.Lotties sad empty eyes because in that moment she had destroyed the last bit of beautifulness in their ugly lives . In that moment she knew that was her "last act of childhood." She's learned that you can't have innocene and compassion at the same time. Her adulthood life had then began.
