- CLIMAXNic ends up in a hospital emergency room in New York after an overdose and is in critical condition and on life support. He begs David to go back to rehab.

- FALLING ACTIONNic's recovery-relapse cycle continues. He turns 21, and continues to go in and out of rehabs, work and school. David suffers a brain hemorrhage, but Nic gets back together with Z again and they barely escape a drug addict's house.
- "I got cocky. It's this trick of addiction. You think, my life isn't unmanageable. I'm doing fine. You lose your humbleness."

- RESOLUTION
- David, Karen, Jasper and Daisy start family therapy, and David, Vicki and Nic do a separate group therapy so the families can start the healing process. Nic has a job, a new girlfriend and is a year sober again. David focuses on his own recovery and stops being preoccupied with Nic's. He hopes that Nic stays sober and their relationship continues to heal.
- "I call Nic to say hi. We talk awhile. He sounds like Nic, my son, back. What's next? We'll see."
