  • How is your car the only thing working on this street ???
  • Why would I know??
  • In "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street," by Rod Serling, one of the main themes is violence doesn’t solve problems but always makes them worse. First, when everything on Maple Street stops working including cars, lights, and radios, the people of Maple Street immediately begin to blame each other, especially targeting Les Goodman, whose car starts moments later. Next, This accusation against Les Goodman escalates the situation causing the people of Maple Street to accuse Tommy, Steve, and Charlie. After that, Charlie, in a moment of panic, pulls Steves's gun away and shoots and kills what he thinks is the monster, but it turns out to be Pete Van Horn. Then it becomes clear that tension and suspicion are growing. As the people on Maple Street get more scared, they come together as a mob, grabbing weapons and getting ready to confront what they think is a "monster".It also, shows how fear can make people act foolish, which always eventually leads to more violence that only tears them apart instead of bringing them together and keeping them united. In conclusion, the major theme of "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street" is violence doesn't solve problems.
