- Introduction
- BENEATHA "(Shrugging) How much cleaning can a house need, for Christ’s sakes."
- RUTH "Come on now, boy, it’s seven thirty! (Her son sits up at last, in a stupor of sleepiness) I say hurry up, Travis! You ain’t the only person in the world got to use a bathroom!"
- Wake up!
- Investments at their finest
- WALTER "Yeah. You see, this little liquor store we got in mind cost seventy-five thousand and we figured the initial investment on the place be ’bout thirty thousand, see"
- RUTH "(Softly) Walter, that ain’t none of our money."
- This is the beginning of act 1 scene 1 when Beneatha and the play induces the apartment. Very messy and crowded. They are constantly cleaning and moving around eachother.

- WALTER Who the hell told you you had to be a doctor? If you so crazy ’bout messing ’round with sick people—then go be a nurse like other women—or just get married and be quiet...
- This Scene in when Travis is getting ready for school and he starts getting yelled at by his mom and beneatha for taking to long. This happens because of there being not more then one bathroom.

- BENEATHA the lord will not help me through everything mama.
- This scene is when Walter talks about the check coming. The youngers are getting a check for the death of Walters dad. He tells Ruth he wants to spend it on investments of a liquor store.
- The end.
- oh no Ruth!
- In this scene beneatha comes home and walks in the front door of the apartment talking about collage. she wants to spend the money on nursing school. She wants to go to collage for the medial field. Walter then fights her on that.
- BENEATHA Well—you finally got it said ... It took you three years but you finally got it said. Walter, give up; leave me alone—it’s Mama’s money.
- In this scene Beneatha is arguing with her mom about god. The mom is very religious towards god and beneatha disagrees with her mom and causes an argument.
- MAMA you WILL NOT talk like that under my roof. Understand me ?
- This is the last scene of act 1 scene 1. Ruth passes out and then it carries on to act 1 scene 2.
- BENEATHA what should I do mama.
