this is Kyle, he is a neurotypical student
this is Brian, he is a neurodivergent student.
Kyle will have 1 hour to take the test
HEY! why does he get a longer time to complete the test
because his brain doesn't function as fast as your brain, his brain is not any less smart. he needs more time to complete the test
Oh, that makes sense.
After the Test . . .
Kyle, you will have 1 hour of homework per class tonight.
that means I have 4 hours of work today!
That means I have 6 hours of homework!!!
No it doesn-
wait . . .
but that doesn't matter
*awkward laugh*
I don't have that amount of time to complete 6 hours of homework!
The Next Day . . .
looks like Ms Johnson isn't here
I rushed through all my homework and got it done in 4 hours
I got my homework done in 4 hours and I feel really confident in my work
but yeah, I don't think you are able to display your academic potential because of your neurodivergence, that's not how it should be.
But just like Ms Johnson said, that's just the way it is.
Unless . . .
I would go to the academic dean's office and present that all students should have less homework because it is making neurodivergent kids unable to show their academic potential
I would present the same idea to a committee of teachers, where they would vote on whether this was an idea to consider facilitating.
