your baby is very sick, you should give her away to a home
Is my baby going to be ok??
No, my baby is staying with me!
Yes! I will love, care for, and advocate for this baby & she will be ok!
"God does not give you anything that you can't handle", Niki is a prime example of this quote.
What Resonated With Me: -The amount of therapies Gina went to like, aquatic, PT, OT, ST is shocking. -Seeing her in the stander and tire swing stuck with me. It is very interesting how they helped her brain function-Gina reaching out for more yogurt when eating with Jo was so impressive!
I also do not understand how many educators, administrators, and social workers mistreated Niki & Gina, had no faith in them and did not care to help them!
This highlights huge systemic problems in terms of  special education and disabilities. How is this treatment still going on in the 21st century?
Niki, I want to ask you, how did your hopes increase as everyone around you was constantly doubtful?
Also, I wonder how expensive all the adaptive equipment, therapy and technology costs? Are there things in the system to help with these finances?
Did problems with your other children ever arise concerning Gina? Did they ever ask difficult questions or have trouble accepting her disability?
1. I will form a partnership with my students parents, I will give them actual decision-making power and ask them what to do in situations
4. After learning about Niki & Gina, I will thank and recognize parents, I will make them feel appreciated and express gratitude along with empathy.
3. I will ensure that I have an efficient 2-way communication system with parents, I will be available as much as possible, respond quickly and send them updates.
2. I will  prioritize social capital by giving parents information on clubs, meetings, PTA, organized activities, camps and referring parents to each other for contact.
