- As the three pardoners went on their journey to find the traitor Death, they stumbled upon an old man which he claimed saw Death by an oak tree.
- Listen Old man, tell us where to find Death, or else!
- You must follow the crooked path to the oak tree. May the Lord be with you.
- And they followed the old man's directions.

- Though, as soon as they reached the oak tree, they did not find a traitor, but rather heaps of gold and riches. They agreed to split the riches among the three of them. But even when they separated to bring food to eat, the three scoundrels' greed had taken over.
- Say, why don't we split the money between just the two of us?
- To have those riches all to myself! Luckily I have a plan...
