In this quote Troy and Cory are in the backyard chopping wood when Cory mentions buying a TV. The text says"Naw it's just two-hundred dollars...It's been 10 years since that roof was last tarred"(Wilson 34). This shows Troy is showing Cory their are more important things that need to be taken care of before buying a TV that coast.

In this scene Lyons aks Troy for a loan to support himself and his music dreams. Lyons states "I ain't ask you give me nothing. I asked you to loan me ten dollars. I know you got ten dollars"(Wilson 22). This shows Lyons is not looking for a handout he is willing to pay back the money
