This sets place in 2081, where everyone is equal, no one is better at anything. No competition. If they are better at something or look better they have a handicap If you are smart you may get a thing where a sound goes off in your head every time you try to think. Or if your really pretty you will get a mask to hide your beauty, or if your strong/athletic you will get a weight to slow you down.
You will get punished if you try to interfere with your handicap. George has a weight on his neck of 47 pounds. He would get fined 2000 dollars for every ball he took out of it and prison. They thought how life would be without the handicaps. They think they would be back in the dark ages again and competing with everyone. George and Hazel's son was taken away.
Harrison Bergeron has escaped from prison (he has overthrown the government) and now is on the loose. Harrisonhas gotten into the news room declaring he is the emperor, he tore off all his handicaps.
