When Mexican the Mexican general found out that the american colonists refused to give the cannon that the Mexicans let them borrow.
The Mexican general sent 100 soldiers to go retrieve the cannon.When the soldiers got to the Guadalupe river They found their path blocked by high water and 18 american soldiers.
on october 1st the texians crossed over into the mexicans camp and put a homemade sign that said "come and take it!"
On October 2nd the American soldiers attacked the Mexicans who were outnumbered and didn't have enough weapons to fight the Americans.
In despite of Castaneda effort to avoid war the battle of Gonzalez Marked a clear break between the Mexican government and american colonists.
