- Harrison is coming onto the stage after escaping prison in hardware and a clown mask. This is to hide his god like features.
- Citizens who are above average must wear handicaps to make those who are lower, look better. It gives it a sense of them looking equal.
- Ballerinas wear masks to conceal their beauty and those who are stronger must wear birdshots to slow them down to the speed and strength of the others.
- A ballerina fills in for the news man and since she has a beautiful voice she must hide it and in result her voice gets described as a "grackle squawk".
- George and Hazel talk about the laws in place. George doesn't like them while hazel like and respects the law. A few moments later they completely forget what they were talking about.
- In "Harrison Bergeron" by Kurt Vonnegut, we watch as society lacks differences and the consequences of individualism. Vonnegut shows the reader what total equality would do to our society. People with strengths would be burdened with handicaps to weaken them to the average citizen. He uses a sarcastic and indifferent tone that confuse the reader to not know whether to laugh or not. This is also used to show that what is happening in the story is laughable and that it is very absurd. We think that it would never happen and that it seems silly that people are okay with it. It also creates an even more disturbing feel since he's making sarcastic remarks at such a dark topic. he uses different symbols throughout the story to represent control and individuality. Harrison represents the individuality and how the government destroys it by Harrison getting locked up and after escaping, killed. The television represents the governments control on society. We see as Hazel and George are talking they become distracted by the ballerinas and they forget their conversation and Hazel forgets why she's crying. The government takes away someone's differences and replaces it with something ordinary. The story shows us that our differences should be celebrated, not suppressed.
