טקסט Storyboard

  • The Germans come to Sighet and set up ghettos. Although they are threatening, many of the Jews don't fear them. They impose a new rule, "Three days later, a new decree: every Jew had to wear the yellow star." (Pg. 11)
  • "There they are, your Germans. What do you say now? Where is their famous cruelty?" (Pg. 10)
  • Elie's father comes home with the news that, "The ghetto was to be liquidated entirely. Departures were to take place street by street, starting the next day." (Pg. 13)
  • "Tell us. Tell us what's happening! Say something..." (Pg. 13)
  • The Jews of Sighet must pack up their belongings and are herded into the synagogue. "The synagogue resembled a large railroad station: baggage and tears." (Pg. 22)
  • "Who knows, they may be sending us away for our own good. The front is getting closer, we shall soon hear the guns." (Pg. 21)
  • The Jews are loaded onto a train where they are packed in with barely any standing room, before they are sealed in. "The doors were nailed, the way back irrevocably cut off." (Pg. 24)
  • '"Look! Look at this fire! This terrible fire! Have mercy on me!" (Pg. 25)
  • The train arrives at a concentration camp, where the first thing the Jews see is a huge chimney with smoke pouring out the top. "And as the train stopped, this time we saw flames rising from a tall chimney into a black sky." (Pg. 28)
  • "Everybody out! Leave everything inside. Hurry up!" (Pg. 28)
  • The most important quote would be, "People must have thought that there could be no greater torment in God's hell than that of being stranded here, on the sidewalk, among the bundles, in the middle of the street under a blazing sun." (Pg.16) This line provides foreshadowing of what else may be in store for the people of Sighet. Although they believe that what they are experiencing in the moment is as bad as it is going to get, they still have more suffering planned for them after they have finished being sorted and placed in train cars. The quote helps to provide foresight for the reader, who understands what is going to happen to the people.
